Nikki Robinson joins the UK NPM as Head of Secretariat

The UK NPM Secretariat is delighted to welcome Nikki Robinson to the team as the Head of the UK NPM Secretariat. 

The team also wishes to extent their warm thanks to Martin Kettle for his expert guidance and good humour while leading Secretariat as interim Head.  

Nikki says: 

“I am delighted to have joined the UK NPM as Head of Secretariat and I look forward to working with the Secretariat team, the Chair and NPM bodies to deliver the NPM’s ambitious programme of work. Having attended the Annual UK NPM Conference earlier this year, I was struck by the commitment, enthusiasm and expertise demonstrated across the NPM.  

The UK NPM benefits greatly from the experience, expertise and insights provided by member bodies through their visits to places of detention, and I am committed to working alongside them to uphold the rights of people deprived of their liberty and help prevent ill-treatment.

I look forward to building on the work of my predecessors, supporting and showcasing the impressive work of NPM bodies across the four nations, and strengthening the collaboration that enables us to maximise our collective impact.“

Alongside Nikki, Rachel Lindsay joined the UK NPM as Chair in April 2026.  

The team very much looks forward to a productive year ahead, working with Nikki and Rachel to deliver the 2026/27 Business Plan and beyond.
